French Self-Test

Do you want to register for a French course at UCT for the first time?

Then we ask you to first take our online French self-test. This will give you a reliable indication of your current level and allow you to immediately register for the course that best suits you.

Note: Have you recently taken a French course at UCT and passed the final test? Then you do not need to take the self-test. You can register directly for the next level.

How does it work?

First, take the online self-test. The test consists of listening and reading exercises, and questions about vocabulary and grammar.

  • Number of questions: 26
  • Duration: maximum 35 minutes
  • Result: you will immediately see which course best matches your level.

Then schedule a short oral conversation. At the end of the online test, you can make an appointment for a telephone oral test. This test helps us determine your level even more accurately.

For the summer courses, no oral placement interview is required in advance. The oral assessment will take place during the first class.

Note: Only make an appointment if you actually plan to register for a course.

Important tips

  • You can only take the test once.
  • Interrupting is not possible.
  • So make sure to take the test in a quiet environment, with enough time and a good internet connection.
