For which Dutch course for Speakers of Other Languages can I register?

If you have not yet followed a Dutch course for Speakers of Other Languages at UCT or if it has been more than a year ago, you should read the following information carefully:

If you not have any prior knowledge of Dutch, you should register for a Dutch level 1 course. If you do already have prior knowledge, you will need to decide whether you want to follow a day course or an evening course:

  • Day course
If you would like to register for a day course, you will need to fill in the registration form, after which we will register for an orientation test. After your registration, we will send you an invoice of 50 euros (which will later be deduced from your registration fee). After the test, you will immediately receive your result and we will register for a course that is most suitable for you. The result of this test is binding. If the test points towards a Dutch level 6 course, we will ask you to take the ITNA test as well. You will not the ITNA test on the same day of the orientation test.

  • Evening course
You can register online for the evening course of your choice. We will also register you for an orientation test. You can find the date of the orientation test of the course of your choice on the course page.

Have you already follow a Dutch course for Speakers of Other Languages at UCT the past year, you should read the following information carefully:
If you passed the final test of your course (final result of 10/20 or higher), you can register for a follow-up course. Please note that we recommend not to wait for the final result before registering for a follow-up course are places are limited.
If you failed the final test of your course (final result of 9/20 or lower), you can retake the course or you can register for a follow-up course. In that case, you will first need to take an orientation test in order to check whether you are ready for the follow-up course. Please note that you can only take an orientation test at least 3 weeks after the final test. If you final result was too low (5/20 or lower), you can unfortunately not take another Dutch course with us in the next six months and we recommend to take a less intensive course.
