Objectives and content

This course is aimed at improving writing skills for academic texts (paper, report, thesis, dissertation).

The participants gain insight into the structure and organization of academic texts. Important academic language functions will be practiced. Attention will be paid to structuring both a paragraph and a full informative text. The course will tackle the three stages of the writing process: preparing, writing and rewriting. Various grammatical elements will be revised in the context of advanced writing skills, such as relative clauses, verb tenses and discourse markers. Furthermore, the Academic Word List will be used to revise and expand vocabulary. Authentic materials suited for a broad academic audience will be used in the course material.

Required prior knowledge

You have good command of English (minimum B1(+)), which will be checked by means of an orientation test.

Tests

There is a placement test and a final test.
